BESSIE THORSON SERVICES TODAY

Bessie O. Thorson, 79, the wife of Iver Thorson of 1507 West St., died Monday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Ole B. and Lena Enerson Christianson, she was born Dec. 14, 1893, near Grinnell. On Feb. 11, 1913, she was married to Iver Thorson in Grinnell. The couple had two children, Ernest I. Thorson of Grinnell and Mrs. Louis (Ida) Rost of Des Moines.

Mr. and Mrs Thorson had lived in and around Grinnell except for a few years when they farmed near Gilman and State Center. In 1947, they returned to the family farm near Grinnell. For the past seven years they had made their home in Grinnell and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Thorson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.

Survivors include her husband; her two children; five grandchildren, Dorene, Dean, and Richard Thorson of Grinnell, Alan Rost of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Michael Rost of Fairbury, Neb.; one great-grandchild, Flevia Rost of Fairbury; and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Mackin and Miss Viola Chrstianson, both of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters, Lawrence Christianson, Mrs. Lillie Alertson, Mrs. Blanche Osborn, Mrs. Agnetta Iverson, Mrs. Mabel Stemsrud, and four who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thorson were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marcus E. Reitz, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Marvin Amo, organist, and Jack Mithelman, vocalist. Pallbearers were Leslie Eilertson, Arthur Iverson, Lawrence Iverson, Lester W. Osborn, Raymond Osborn, and Bert Stemsrud.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
