MABEL S. NEWTON

Funeral services for Mabel S. Newton, 92, of Mt. Vernon, (S.D.) who died April 16, 1978, were held April 20 at Mt. Vernon. Burial was in Graceland cemetery with her grandsons serving as casketbearers.

Mrs. Newton was born June 22, 1885 at Brooklyn, Iowa, to James and Elizabeth Kibbee. She was married to Curtis M. Newton, also of Brooklyn. They moved to Mt. Vernon in 1910. In 1942 they moved to Grinnell living there until Mr. Newton's death in 1949. Mrs. Newton then returned to the Mitchell and Mt. Vernon (S.D.) areas.

They were the parents of four children including Mrs. W.J. (Bernice) Wittenburg, Mrs. Dewey (Alverta) Mathis, Chester Newton, and Mrs. A.M. (Frances) Moore.

Mrs. Newton was united with the Brethren Church when a young woman, later transferring to the Methodist Church at Mt. Vernon.

Survivors include three children; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
