RITES SUNDAY FOR GEORGE MORRISON, PIONEER RESIDENT
Funeral services for George Morrison of Ewart were held Sunday at the Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Walter Purdy of Des Moines officiating.
A longtime resident of Poweshiek county, Mr. Morrison died at Grinnell on June 21st. He would have reached his 95th birthday next month.
Born in Pleasant township on July 13, 1862, he was the son of Fred and Emily Morrison. As a young man he accompanied his parents when they moved to South Dakota but later returned to Poweshiek county.
On Dec. 22, 1885, he was married to Dora Wells and they became the parents of four daughters. After farming for several years, they moved to Ewart and he operated a general store and the post office there.
Mr. Morrison is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Verna Nelson of Des Moines, Mrs. Nina Darr, and Mrs. Nola McCormick of Montezuma; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter.
