F.P.T. MORRISON BURIED AT EWART

Following is the obituary of Frederick P.T. Morrison, who was buried recently at Ewart. The Rev. E.W. Gregson, long-time friend of the Morrison family, conducted the funeral services. Charles Gerard, Mrs. Cliff Braley, Mrs. Leo Farley and G.E. Wasson sang appropriate selections. Pall bearers were J.S. Copeland, J.S. Ewart, David Agnew, J.C. McMeekin, W.H. Rutherford and Fred Wells. Taps were sounded by Ora Littlefield, a relative of the family. Mr. Morrison resided in the vicinity of Ewart for a period of twenty years.

Frederick P.T. Morrison was born in Boston, Mass., May 9, 1837, and died November 12, at the home of his daughter, Mary E. Forcum in St. Joseph, Mo., at the age of 95 years and 6 months. His early life was spent in Boston. As a young man he was a sailor and after several trips around the world came to Iowa in 1857 and settled at Malcom.

At the age of twenty-one years he was united in marriage to Emily Burns, youngest daughter of George Burns, a pioneer of the Malcom community. Mr. Morrison served with distinction during the Civil war and organized the first company of troops in Poweshiek county, and was commissioned a captain. Being unable to leave with his company, he shortly after enlisted in the 4th Iowa cavalry, and served throughout the war with this regiment.

On returning home he engaged in railroad work as yardmaster of the Iowa Central Railway at Mason City until he was incapacitated through injury. He then moved to Des Moines where he lived until his wife passed away, January 27, 1925.

Besides his daughter Mary, he leaves to mourn his loss a daughter, Mrs. W.W. Carr of Des Moines, and a son, George W. Morrison of Montezuma, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
