MRS. VERNA NELSON RITES HELD SATURDAY
Services for Mrs. Verna Nelson were held at the Steffy Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 15. The Rev. Wilton Grant of Collins, Iowa, officiated. Music was provided by Miss Alice Underwood, organist.
Casket bearers were Ralph Wells, Booker Kiner, Clifford Braley, Harold Bryan, Carmon Johnson and Paul McConnell. Interment was at Pleasant Cemetery, Ewart.
Mrs. Nelson, 82, passed away Wednesday, February 12, at Evanston, Ill.
The daughter of George and Dora Wells Morrison, she was born at Ewart on Oct. 6, 1886.
On April 30, 1907, she was united in marriage with Gaston Nelson. They lived in the Ewart vicinity until 1922 when they moved to Des Moines. Mr. Nelson passed away Oct. 17, 1948. Mrs. Nelson lived in Des Moines until about two years ago when, because of ill health, she went to Evanston, Ill., to live with her daughter.
She is survived by her son, George T. Nelson of Des Moines; her daughter, Mrs. James W. Grant, of Evanston; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nina Darr of Bettendorf, and Mrs. Nola McCormick of Montezuma.
