MRS. SMITH DIES; SERVICES THURSDAY
Mrs. Mabel Mae Smith, 53, of 1405 Prince St., wife of Amos Smith, died suddenly Monday morning at Grinnell General Hospital East.
The daughter of Charlie and Elsie Holcomb Jones, Mrs. Smith was born Dec.11, 1916 in Blakesburg, Iowa. She attended school at Lynnville, Iowa, and graduated from Grinnell high school.
On Sept. 17, 1935, she married Amos D. Smith in Grinnell. To this union were born six children--Leroy E. Smith, Mrs. John (Karen) Rupe, Tommy Smith, Kenny Smith, Pamela Smith and Richard Smith, all of Grinnell.
Since their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Smith have made their home in Grinnell. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary. She had worked at St. Francis Hospital and the jacket factory before her recent employment as a nurses aide at Friendship Manor.
Survivors include her husband, six children, 12 grandchildren and her mother, Mrs. Elsie Jones of Grinnell.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
