SYLVAN LEPLEY

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon, Nov. 8, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor for Sylvan Lepley, 88, of Victor, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

The Rev. Torger Johnson of United Methodist Church in Victor officiated. Organ selecitons, "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden," were performed by organist Colleen Van Zee. Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago.

The son of Mern and Elva Etta Ocheltree Lepley, Sylvan was born June 28, 1909, in Victor. He was raised and educated in Victor and was a 1927 graduate of Victor High School. Sylvan graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College at Mt. Pleasant, where he was a Sigma Phi Epsilon and excelled in track.

He was married to Rose Belohlavek on Dec. 10, 1934, in Milwaukee, Wis. The couple made their home in Milwaukee, Chicago, and later Cleveland, before moving to Norwalk, Conn., where they lived for 40 years. He was employed with Pitney Bowes and was named manager of Service Administration in 1946. In 1954, he was appointed Export Service Coordinator.

He retired in 1966, and worked part-time in a local flower shop as a delivery person for 15 years. He returned to Victor in 1992. He was an active member of the Lions Club and had been an avid bowler.

He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his cousins, Marianne Ocheltree and Melvin and Ruth Price, all of Victor, Mary Ellen Fullmer of Omaha, Neb., Ellen Gibson of Keota, and several nieces and nephews.
