MR. CORBETT RITES TODAY

Clarence D. Corbett, 63, of 829 East St. died late Friday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of William and Nancy Smith Corbett, he was born Jan. 20, 1910, in Brooklyn. He attended the Brooklyn public schools and was graduated from Vail, Iowa, High School with the class of 1930. On Sept. 19, 1944, he was married to Thelma M. Sinclair in Grinnell. The couple had two children: James S. of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mrs. Douglas R. (Mary M.) Shutts of Grinnell.

Mr. and Mrs. Corbett had made their home in Grinnell for the past 29 years. He was a member of the Grinnell First Baptist Church and the Baptist Men's Club. He also was a member of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53, American Legion. He had served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Corbett had been associated with the U.S. Post Office and the First Baptist Church here as a custodian for a number of years. He had also been associated with Grinnell College.

Survivors include his wife Thelma; his son and daughter; eight grandchildren, Peter, Kara, Rene, Dori and Joshua Corbett of Phoenix and Christopher, Anjela, and Amanda Shutts of Grinnell; one brother, Manly Corbett; one sister, Mrs. Don (Agnes) Houdersheldt of Omaha, Neb.; four cousins, Amos and Cleo Smith of Grinnell and Floyd Smith and Mrs. Lucille Pimlott; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Corbett.

Funeral services for Mr. Corbett were held t 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the church officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers were Harold Brown, Donovan Evans, Dennis Fleener, Marlyn L. Olson, Clair Strand, and Everette Wood. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Corbett's name may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Cancer Fund.
