RITES FOR MRS. MITCHELL HELD MONDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Tillie Mitchell were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at the Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, with the Rev. Ercel Craven, pastor of the Oak Grove Friends church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner and vocalist was Mrs. Mac Molison.
Pallbearers were Dale Brush, Warren Lincoln, Robert Otcheck, J.W. Price, Arnold Ratcliff and Bernard Simmons. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery at Grinnell. Flower bearers were Mrs. Warren Lincoln and Mrs. Bernard Simmons.
Mrs. Teuntja (Tillie) Hendrika Mitchell, 80, the widow of Clyde Mitchell, died Friday morning, Sept. 29, at Montezuma. The daughter of Walter and Dirkje Dewit Van Gorp, she was born at Pella on July 25, 1887.
She was married to Clyde Mitchell on Feb. 18, 1909, at Forest Home, Iowa, and to this union were born three children: Mrs. Bertha Wertz of Iowa City, Cornie Mitchell of Gilman, and David Mitchell of Grinnell.
Mr. and Mrs. Mithcell farmed in the Lynnville area and also the Gilman and Melbourne areas before moving to Grinnell in 1939. She attended the Oak Grove Friends church.
She is survived by her three children; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister: Henry Van Gorp of South Holland, Ill., Robert Van Gorp of Newton and Mrs. Irvan (Cora) James of Searsboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde, in 1947; and two brothers, Frank and Carl Van Gorp.
