SYLVIA BERRY SERVICES HELD

Sylvia Berry, 92, of Brooklyn died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Lynn Williams, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, officiating. Organist was Nina Bartachek. Pallbearers were Matt Van Ersvelde, Neal Van Ersevelde, Jeff Van Ersvelde, Bill Van Ersvelde, Brad Baker and Mark Baker. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

The daughter of John and Caroline Riedasch Hink, she was born on Jan. 6, 1895, in Sheridan Township. She attended public school in Sheridan Township and catechism school at Trinity Lutheran Church north of Malcom.

She moved with her parents to Grinnell where she worked in various homes doing housework until her marriage to Joseph Berry on Jan. 10, 1917, in Marshalltown. They lived in Grinnell until 1925 when they moved to a farm south of Brooklyn. The couple moved into Brooklyn in 1966.

Mrs. Berry became a member with the Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn in 1925. She was also a member of the HGL Club.

She is survived by three sons, Clyde of Lorimor, Lyle of Montezuma and Joe of Buchanan Dam, Texas; one daughter, Dorothy Van Ersvelde of Brooklyn; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Grace Kinnaird; three brothers and five sisters.
