Mrs. Eliza M. Carver, one of the old residents in the county, died on Saturday, Janaury 27, at the home of her son, Ralph, in Thornburg, aged 71 years, 6 months and 26 days. Mrs. Carver first came to Iowa in April, 1854, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Nutting. The family settled in Scott township. She was married in 1858 and in 1868 the family moved to Mahaska county. After the death of her husband in 1901, Mrs. Carver lived in Barnes City until three years ago, when she went to Thornburg. The body was interred in the cemetery in Barnes City.
