MRS. W.J. OSBORN DIES CHRISTMAS DAY 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Mrs. Elizabeth Osborn, 77, wife of William J. Osborn of 505 Broad Street, died Christmas Day at a local hospital where she had been a patient for five weeks. She had not been in good health the last nine months.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Shireman, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating.

Flower bearers will be Mrs. Clarence Doud and Mrs. Edward Taylor. Pallbearers will be Richard Dean, Clarence Doud, Donald Latham, George Mowitt, Edward Taylor and Paul Worcester. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

The daughter of David and Matilda McConaghie McDowell, she was born Sept. 26th, 1888, on a farm in the Oak Grove neighborhood south of Grinnell. She attended the schools near her home.

On Christmas Day in 1915, at Grinnell, she was united in marriage with William J. Osborn. They were observing their 50th wedding anniversary the day she passed away.

To this union were born six children, four of whom survive; Robert Osborn of Grinnell; Wayne Osborn of Des Moines; Mrs. Peter (Marie) Rook of Artesia, Calif.; and Keith Osborn of Marshalltown.

Mr. and Mrs. Osborn made their home in Grinnell after their marriage and she worked at times in women's ready-to-wear stores. She was a member of the Oak Grove Friends church and the Grinnell Firemen's Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, William; her four children; seven grandchildren; and five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Laymiller of Grinnell, Mrs. Nellie Lincoln of Grinnell, Mrs. Mary Burch of Grinnell, Mrs. Joe (Anna) Harner of Des Moines, and Mrs. Ray (Agnes) Hutchison of Kellogg.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two daughters, Louise in infancy and Katherine Matilda at age 12 in 1937; and three brothers, Dana, Robert and David McDowell.
