ROOKE HARMAN

On March 23 funeral service was held at St. Andrew's United church for the late Rooke Harmon who died in his 87th year at High River hospital on the previous Monday. He had suffered a stroke on March 19 and was taken to hospital.

The late Mr. Harmon was born in Italy and made several trips to United States before he was twelve years old. In his early teens he went to Iowa and as a young man to Washington. He came to Alberta from Hatten, Washington, in 1904 and homesteaded in the Sunset district in 1906 where he remained until 1936. In that year he sold his farm and moved to Twin Butte to live until three years ago when he returned to Nanton. He had a most independent character and especially in his later years disliked having people do anything for him unless they accepted substantial payment. For many years his violin playing was the mainstay of social life in the Sunset district where he often played for dances, some people claiming that he could play while sleeping.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Winnie of Tacoma, Washington, and a son, Jake, of Connell, Washington.

Rev. C.D. Powell officiated at the funeral service and Mrs. R.V. Hallett played the organ. Pallbearers were A.J. Archibald, W.H. McCutcheon, E. Koch, Carl Anderson, Jim Smith and Cleo Sandy. Burial took place in Nanton cemetery.
