ELMER WERTZ RITES TODAY

Elmer F. Wertz, 79, of 116 S. Elm St., Gilman, died Friday Nov. 18, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith Briggs of the First Friends Church officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner,and pallbearers will be Glen Dillman, Ed Hing, Carl Kvinlaug, Robert Stewart, Daryl Thompson and William Wiseman. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden, Marshalltown.

The son of George and Anna Bell Wertz, he was born Oct. 7, 1904, near Kellogg. He attended Jasper County rural schools. He worked as a farmer and later worked at the Farmers Co-op Elevator at Gilman, the Gilman hog-buying station and the Grinnell Livestock Exchange. Prior to his retirement he was an independent trucker.

Mr. Wertz was married to Esther L. Thompson on March 8, 1958.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Phillip E. Wertz of Grinnell; one granddaughter; five sisters, Rose Bickel of Coggon, Elsie Milligan of Montezuma, Mildred Phillips of Searsboro, Doris Yokem of Madison, Ala., and Viola Koger of Kellogg; and two brothers, Leslie Wertz of Kellogg and Lyle Wertz of Laurel.
