MILO PHILLIPS SERVICES SET

Milo Phillips, 73, of rural Searsboro died of cancer early Tuesday, Nov. 29, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Irene S. Weitert, pastor of the Searsboro Friends Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Rex James, Gary Lowry, Richard Lowry, Terry Lowry , Deverne Meredith, Gary Rooda and Grant Rooda.

Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery west of Newburg.

The son of Joel P. and Alice E. Mankey Phillips, he was born March 29, 1910, in Brookfield, Mo. He moved with his family to Princeton, Kan., and attended school near the family farm, later attending Princeton High School. He came to Iowa in 1929.

On Oct. 21, 1931, he was married to Mildred Wertz at Newburg. The couple operated a service station and restaurant in Newburg, then moved to the Marshalltown area where he was employed as a driver for a trucking firm. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips moved to the farm near Searsboro in 1943.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Duane J. of Montezuma, Lloyd K. of Knoxville, John D. of Wichita, Kan., Helen L. Tuttle of Guernsey, and Robert E. of Searsboro; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Ray J. of Des Moines, Earl of Richmond, Kan., Tharen of Garnett, Kan., and Chester of Lexington, Texas; and two sisters, Pauline Withers of Lynn, Mo., and Grace Brown of Richmond, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jackie Phillips.
