DARYL J. DOTY, 76

Daryl J. Doty, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at First Congregational United Church of Christ by the Rev. David Hohmann. Private burial was at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his passing his son, Dwight (Sian) of Mercer Island (Seattle) Wash.; his daughter, Kelli (Jeff) Goss of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Austin Goss, Tanner Goss, Evan Doty, and Brynn Doty; brother, Ross of Brooklyn, Marvin (Mary) of Grinnell, Dale of Brooklyn; sisters, Vivian (Bob) King of Grinnell, Gladys Palmer of Cedar Rapids, Lucille (Richard) King of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joan Foster of Cedar Rapids, and Kay Dieterich of Brooklyn, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, together with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (1999); and parents, Glenn and Pearl Doty.

Daryl Jay Doty was born Jan. 20, 1934, in Brooklyn, the son of Glenn Ross and Pearl (Lucille) Doty. One of nine children, he lived at Brooklyn throughout his childhood and youth. He went to school in Hartwick. He married Bonnie Charlene Sutphin on June 20, 1956, in Brooklyn while on leave from the Navy. Daryl was employed at Hubbard Milling Company for many years, retiring in 1998. Daryl was a long time member of First Congregational UCC, having joined in 1973. He enjoyed gardening, Hawkeye sports, his dog, Captain, and anything to do with his family. He was known for his laughter and teasing.
