MRS. LEONA BOWES

Funeral services were held at St. Bridgets Catholic church, Victor, May 31, at 1 p.m. for Mrs. Leona Bowes, 85, who died May 29 at Grinnell General Hospital East. Rev. Msgr. Greer officiated the rites with burial at Oak Hill cemetery, Belle Plaine.

Caskset bearers were Isadore Gryp, Richard Bazyn, Arthur DeBrower, John Bazyn, Don Van Nevel and Danny Bazyn.

Leona M. Slock, daughter of Bruno and Natalie Slock, was born March 2, 1884 in Belgium.

She was united in marriage to Serafen Bazyn in January, 1904. The couple moved to Belle Plaine that year where they farmed for several years. To this union four children were born: two daughters, Berta, Mrs. John DeCoster of Brooklyn and Alice, Mrs. Howard Meldrem of Victor; two sons, Renna of Brooklyn and Maurice of Victor.

Mr. Bazyn died in Belle Plaine, April 29, 1923. Mrs. Bazyn was remarried August 15, 1934 to Rollie Bowes of Brooklyn. He died Oct. 4, 1937 at the Veterans hospital, Des Moines. Since that time Mrs. Bowes has made her home with members of her family.

She had been living with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John DeCoster, until failing health made it necessary for her to move to Brookhaven nursing home.

Mrs. Bowes was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters, 3 brothers and 1 grandchild. She is survived by her four children, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three sisters still living in Belgium.
