ALLEN RAY EVANS

Funeral services for Ray Evans, 84, of 114 East Des Moines, Brooklyn, were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11 in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Mr. Evans died Wednesday morning, Dec. 9, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home.

Rev. Fred Pierce, pastor of the Grace United Methodist church, Brooklyn, and Mr. James R. Ross, minister of West Liberty Church of Christ, officiated. The organist was Mrs. Sybil Kelley. Flower attendants were Mrs. Joyce Douglas and Mrs. Frances Paulson. Honorary casket bearers were William Heitsman, Robert Roudabush, Harold Carlsen, and John Edelen. Casket bearers were Dale Douglas, Pat Douglas, Curt Manatt, Max Montgomery, Woodrow Boyd, and John Krumm. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn.

Allen Ray Evans, son of John A. Evans and Sarah Lineweaver Evans, was born near Brooklyn July 23, 1897. He married Leota Bowes Dec. 12, 1917, in Davenport. They farmed south of Brooklyn and later were associated with the Phillips Oil Co., Montezuma. Thereafter he was employed by the Shell Oil Co., Oskaloosa, and the Allis Chalmers Tractor Co., Strawberry Point, before returning to Brooklyn where he drove a school bus.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Grace United Methodist church and Corinthian Lodge 174 AF & AM.

Survivors include three nephews, Evan Allen, Staples, Minn., Earl Allen, Montezuma, and Robert Evans, Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and one sister.
