"Minnie" Rehberg

Wilhelmina Margaret Eliza Jochims, the daughter of Paul and Eliza Repenn Jochims, was born Dec. 22, 1900, on her family farm in Sheridan Township, Poweshiek County.  She received her education at Sheridan No. 3 School near her home.  She later moved to Tama and was employed with the telephone company.

She was married to Harry Edward Rehberg Feb. 16, 1921, at her parents home in Tama.  The couple farmed in the Grinnell area until 1948 and then moved to Grinnell.  She began working in the housekeeping department at Grinnell College in 1949 and retired in 1964.

She was baptized Aug. 11, 1901, and confirmed in the faith April 16, 1916, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tama.  She later joined Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was very active as a Sunday school teacher, altar guild, ladies aid, and the Women of the ELCA.  She also was a member of the St. John's Lutheran "Autumn Leaves" in Grinnell.

Minnie's life was very much centered around her family and church.  Both were very important to her.  She kept busy tending to her garden and house plants, and crocheting and tatting.  She enjoyed music, letter writing and nature.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lillian and Horace Davidson of Brooklyn, Doris and Raymond Parker of Kellogg, Fern Buhr of Grinnell, Harold and Beverly Rehberg of Blairstown, Marion and Karen Rehberg of Mesa, Ariz., Garnet and David Gertsma of Lynnville, and Nancy Locker of Grinnell; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Minnie died May 26, at Friendship Manor, at the age of 93.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons-in-law, Lloyd Buhr and Keith Locker; four sisters, Anna Peterson, Alma Hansen, Emma Friederichs, and Clara Jochims; five brothers, John, Ted, Ernest, Carl, and Ben; a granddaughter, Linda Parker, and two great-grandsons, Cory and Adam Mikel.

Services were held May 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Beryl Knutsen officiating.

Pallbearers were James Davidson, Keith Davidson, Mark Davidson, Bruce Gertsma, Leroy Locker, Larry Parker, Ronald Parker, Frederick Rehberg and Paul Rehberg.  Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
