CLARENCE STEPHEN WARNE IS DEAD

Clarence Stephen Warne, son of Stephen and Martha Warne, was born west of Villisca, Iowa, Sept. 2, 1871, and departed this life at his home March 11, 1932.

When 22 years of age Clarence Warne went to Grinnell and farmed with an uncle, Andrew Foster. When the Spanish-American war broke out he and a chum were the first from Grinnell to enlist. He enlisted with the 50th regiment, Co. K. He remained with the company until they were mustered out at the close of the war. He returned to Grinnell and resumed farming with his uncle.

Clarence S. Warne and Miss Maud Osborn were married Jan. 1, 1902, at Grinnell. They lived on a farm east of Grinnell for seven years. In the spring of 1909 they moved to Villisca, and have since resided on the farm west of that town where Mr. Warne was born. Three children were born to this home; Esther, now Mrs. E.E. Heyle of Stanton, Raymond Warne of near Guss, and Keith Warne at home with his parents.

While living at Grinnell Mr. Warne united with the Methodist Church. Upon his return to Villisca he transferred his membership to the class at the Neal school, and later to the church at Villisca. Having lived practically all his life in this one community he had the respect and confidence of his neighbors and friends and brethren in the church.

For the past five years Mr. Warne had been an invalid. During this time there had been a gradual failing of physical strength. Last fall he fell and broke his arm, and during the winter he had failed more noticeably. He took worse a week ago and rapidly weakened to the end. In all those months of failing health he had never complained of his lot, but lived as one who had full trust in the care of a loving Heavenly Father. He had the deepest appreciation of his home, and tenderly cherished the loving ministrations it afforded him in his failing health.

Besides Mrs. Warne and the children mentioned there are the following near relatives: one brother, Charles Warne of Grant, and one sister, Mrs. Ivan R. Mills of Adair, and three grandhchildren.
