VERNON MCBLAIN

Vernon McBlain, 86, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Grinnell, died Modnay, Oct. 3.

He was born Feb. 28, 1908, the son of John and Bessie McBlain. He was married to Mildred Dempster in 1930, and she died in June 1986. He was married to Letha Simpson of Riverside in 1990.

While in Grinnell, Mr. McBlain worked at the former United Food Store. He also managed United stores in Corning, Winterset and Colfax.

He is survived by one son, William of Riverside; one sister, Jean Schrader of Grinnell; a half-sister, Thelma Moore of Riverside; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Corrine Slayter; and one stepbrother, Frank DuPre.
