GAIL OLTROGGE SERVICES TODAY

Mrs. Gail Oltrogge, 78, the wife of William Oltrogge of 828 Park St., died Thursday noon at Friendship Manor Nursing Home. She had been in failing health the past few years and had been cared for at the nursing home the past three years.

The daughter of William and Mary Anthony Haynes, she was born, Nov. 14, 1893, in Poweshiek County, one of a family of 12 children. She attended the rural schools near her parents' farm home and later was married to Bill Oltrogge at the Methodist parsonage in Grinnell Dec. 31, 1912. The couple had six children, four of whom survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Oltrogge had farmed in Minnesota for a year following their marriage, but returned to Iowa and Poweshiek County to farm in Sheridan and Chester townships. They also farmed near Newburg in Jasper County and in 1937 moved to Grinnell to make their home. For brief periods during World War II, they lived in California.

Mrs. Oltrogge was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S. circles of the church, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Bill; four children, Mrs. Burnell (Fay) Beaty of Marshalltown, Murl "Bud" Oltrogge of Grinnell, Mrs. Gene (Joan) McCurry of Grinnell, and Jim Oltrogge of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Frank Beaty of Marshalltown, Mrs. Curt (Jody) Caughey of Peoria, Ill., David McCurry of Iowa State University, Kirk McCurry of Grinnell, Mrs. Pam May of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Bill (Jackie) Keller of Lincoln, and P/c. Bill Oltrogge of the U.S. Army, stationed at Pedricktown, N.J.; and two great-grandchildren, John Beaty of Marshalltown and Debbie May of Lincoln, Neb. She was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter, four brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Oltrogge were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and flower bearers were Mrs. Beatrice Ingraham and Mrs. Grace Brown.

Pallbearers were Wesley Meyer, Clifton Meyer, Harley McIlrath, Raymond McIlrath, Kenneth Rutherford and Alvin Sheeler.

Burial was in Sheridan Township Cemetery.
