WILLIAM DAWSON CARTER

William Dawson Carter was born July 1, 1846 and passed away at the home of his son, Edwin, Saturday, October 29th, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 28 days. He came to this county in 1861 and made his home here until May 6th, when he moved to Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Carter was here visiting relatives and friends at the time of his death.

In 1868, Mr. Carter was married to Nancy Alice Sackett and to this union six children were born, three girls and three boys, Edwin, Dora, Izora, Elenore and Chester. The mother passing away on December 22, 1902. One daughter Dora died in November 1905.

On January 23, 1905, he was married to Sue Metz, which proved to be a very happy marriage. To mourn his loss are a loving wife, three sons, two daughters and seven grandchildren and one brother John Carter of Montezuma, besides a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Edwin Carter home, east of town by the Rev. H.L. Olmstead, pastor of the Christian Church at Omaha, on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery and services at the grave were in charge of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.
