IRA BEELER DIED AT HOSPITAL; LAST RITES HERE SUNDAY

Ira C. Beeler, oldest son of John S. and Ellen C. Beeler, was born in a log cabin on a farm in Washington Township, on July 1, 1872. He died at the Community Hospital, August 18, 1939, after a lingering illness of six weeks, due to a neck and back injury caused by a fall from a load of hay. He was 67 years, 1 month and 17 days old on the date of his death. With the exception of the last four years of his life, which was spent in Grant Township, he lived all of his life in Washington Township. Here he received his schooling, attending Grinnell High School, graduating in the class of 1894 and later went one and one-half years at the C.C.C.C. Business College in Des Moines.

On February 23, 1896, he was married to Ella M. Taylor. To this union were born three children: Lela M. Wells and William J. Beeler of Grinnell, Iowa, and Eva McLain of Newton, Iowa.

Mr. Beeler's life work was farming. Due to failing health for the past 20 years he gave up active farming the last 15 years of his life, but was always helping someone in need, because he was industrious and ever ready to give of his time and strength to be helpful.

Mr. Beeler was converted in a Methodist Revival meeting in 1925 under the preaching of Dr. Breniman of Oskaloosa and has been a faithful Christian ever since. He was also a member of the Men's Bible Class of the Grinnell Methodist Church.

Mr. Beeler lived a true Christian life. He was a generous kind and upright citizen, as well as a loving and devoted brother, husband and father. He was quiet and unassuming, but he was a true friend, always fair in all his dealings and ever faithful in his work and in the maintenance of his home.

Besides his devoted wife and children, he leaves to mourn his loss, seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, George F. Beeler, Ora F. Beeler, and L. Clark Beeler; three sisters, Nannie Bradley, Mary Morrison and Jane E. Reid, and a host of other relatives and friends. His father, mother, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, August 20th, at the Methodist church, with Rev. Chas. R. Rowe in charge.

Mrs. Sheldon Copeland and Lyle Thompson, with Mrs. Edwin Parish at the piano, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Abide With Me," "In the Garden" and "No Night There." Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Selle, John Peak, Robert C. Lincoln, George Lowrey, Ed Thompson and A.B. Manson, lifetime friends and neighbors. Interment was at Hazelwood cemetery.
