ROBERT SADLER

Robert J. Sadler, 78, of Grinnell died of complications from a stroke Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Homer Perry officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and casket bearers were Edgar Anderson, William Belcher, Jerry Carter, John Hoffstetter, Steve Reams, Bernard Sheets and Robert Teed.

The Iowa Army National Guard conducted graveside services. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Samuel and Florence Smith Sadler, he was born March 28, 1920, in Nashville, Tenn. He was raised in Nashville and attended school there. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married to Peggy Pauline Lisk Oct. 2, 1949, in Franklin, Ky. The family lived in Grinnell where Mr. Sadler worked for the Grinnell Shoe Company. From 1955 to 1975 he worked as a press operator at the Donaldson Company. He was a member of the American Legion and a charter member of the local chapter of the United Auto Workers Union.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Deb Eyestone of Des Moines; four sons, Wayne, Clint, Lon and Tracy, all of Grinnell; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Pauline Rayburn and Christine Coleman, both of Nashville; and four brothers, Samuel of Davenport, Franklin of Memphis, Tenn., John of Grinnell and Edgar of Nolensville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Vicky; one son, Everett; and two brothers, Edward and Paul.
