DWIGHT A. PEARCE SERVICES FRIDAY

Dwight A. (Snyde) Pearce, 71, of Rte. 2, Grinnell passed away early Tuesday morning at Grinnell General Hospital East. He had been in failing health for about two years.

He was born Dec. 29, 1896, near Ewart, the son of George and Cora Chase Pearce. He attended local rural schools and later the Grinnell schools. Mr. Pearce served in the Army during World War I.

He was united in marriage with Velva Matteson on June 17, 1921, at Newton. To the couple was born one daughter, Mary, now Mrs. Dwight A. Cook of Grinnell.

In addition to his widow and daughter, Mr. Pearce is survived by one grandson,Jeffrey Cook of Grinnell; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Owens of Oceanside, Calif., Mrs. Harold (Lucille) Hoganson of Rosemeade, Calif., and Mrs. Harold (Eulalia) Haines of Kellogg; and one brother, Worley Pearce of near Clear Lake, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Mr. Pearce had been a member of the American Legion and also belonged to the Hickory Grove church. He had been employed by the former Grinnell Elevator, Railway Express Co., Meadow Gold Ice Cream plant, and the Grinnell Beverage Co. Since 1940 he had farmed west of Grinnell.

Funeral services for Mr. Pearce will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of Hickory Grove church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner, and vocalist will be Mrs. Noel Taylor. Casket bearers will include Lester Adkins, Vern Millgate, Hollis Parmley, Verlin Adkins, Kenneth Adkins, and George Decatur. Flower bearers will be Mrs. Verlin Adkins and Mrs. Kenneth Adkins.

Burial will be in Rock Creek cemetery west of Grinnell, with American Legion graveside rites conducted by Jack Day, chaplain, and Bill Richardson, commander, along with members of Focht-Tennant Post #53 ceremonial unit.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
