HAROLD HAINES

Harold "Hienie" Haines, 84, of Kellogg died Thursday, Jan. 23, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were conduced at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Hinshaw of Ashton Chapel, Baxter, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Warren Miller, Paul Myers, William Stevenson, Bob Townsend, Carl Wittrup and Bernard Young. Burial was in Our Silent City Cemetery, Kellogg.

Masonic rites were conducted Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home by Newton Masonic Lodge.

Memorials in Mr. Haines' name may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital and sent to P.O. Box 424, Kellogg 50135.

The son of David and Corda Adkins Haines, he was born Oct. 9, 1907, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. He attended Grinnell schools, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1925. Following his education he worked for AT&T in South Dakota as a lineman, later working in Chicago.

He was married to Eulalia Pearce April 7, 1934. The couple lived in Grinnell where Mr. Haines worked for the Morrison-Shults Glove Co. He served as a Seabee with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning to Grinnell, he worked as a lineman for Iowa Southern Utilites Co. Mr. and Mrs. Haines later moved to Kellogg where he operated Hienie's Electric Service.

He was a member of the Kellogg American Legion and the Kellogg Christian Church, and he was active in Masonic circles.

Surviving are his wife and one sister, Naomi of San Leandro, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Richard.
