NIGEL ANDERSON SERVICES HELD

Nigel B. Anderson, 83, of 502 Center St., Grinnell, died Sunday, Jan. 31, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Ray Standerwick, pastor of the Westfield Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud. Pallbearers were Kelly Bryan, Kerry Bryan, Dean Clark, Gary Elliott, Jerry Morris, Clair Nikkel and John Thompson. Honorary bearers were Dick Clark, Robbie Douglas, Neil Hotchkin, Mike Keenan, Glen Phipps, Howard Trease and Dick Van Draska.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Charles and Rebecca Centers Anderson, he was born on July 12, 1904, in Putnam County, Mo. He attended school in that area. He moved to Grinnell in 1922 and worked for the Rock Island Railroad until retiring in 1965. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Railroad Workers Union, the Grinnell American Legion and the Coon Hunters Organization.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, the former Velva Kline whom he married in 1965; three stepsons, Dale Pinkerton of Grinnell, Leon Pinkerton of Chino, Calif., and Max Bennington of Grinnell; three stepdaughters, Judie Pinkerton of RoAlta, Calif., Linda Pinkerton of Ontario, Calif., and Virginia Gillaspie of Newburg; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Cloyd Anderson of Mitchellville; and two sisters, Naomi Thompson of Grinnell and Neva Peck of Truth or Consequences, N.M .
