SEPT. 3RD RITES CONDUCTED FOR JAKE RIVERS, 75

Jake Rivers, 75, a longtime Poweshiek county resident, died August 31 at an Iowa City hospital.

Funeral services were held Sept. 3 from the West Liberty Church of Christ, with William Ell presiding. Music was by the church singers.

Pallbearers were Wendell Hardeman, Walter Meyer, Wendell Schultz, Warren Swangle, Alvie Johnson, and Alva Swangle. Interment was in the church cemetery.

The son of Stephen and Alice Snyder Rivers, he was born in Union township, Poweshiek county, on Dec. 8, 1887. He attended the Miller school and united with the West Liberty Church of Christ in 1903.

On Sept. 11, 1904, he was united in marriage with Bessie Playle and to this union eight daughters were born: Alice Wittrup, Ely, Minn.; Winifred Schmidt, Searsboro; Fern Vajgert, Maxine Richardson, Elizabeth Thompson, Cleora Arnold and Ina Rivers, all of Marshalltown; and Lena Dell Rivers, who died in infancy.

Survivors include his widow, seven daughters, 18 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
