HERMAN LEMKE DIES; SERVICES SATURDAY

Herman H. Lemke, 76, of 233 Broad St., died late Wednesday evening at St. Francis hospital after being hospitalized for one week.

The son of Henry John Martin Lemke and Marie Christina Mithelman, Mr. Lemke was born in Kellogg on July 28, 1890. He farmed in the Jasper and Poweshiek county area for many years and moved to Grinnell after his health (failed?)

Mr. Lemke was married to the former Edith Maude McMeekin at Ewart on Sept. 5, 1917. Ten children were born to this couple.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters--Mrs. Bill (Dorothy) Owens of Newton, and Mrs. Russell (Hazel) Freeborn of Grinnell; eight sons--Donald of Grinnell, Earl of Grinnell; Leonard of Grinnell; Walter of Malcom; James of Malcom, Ralph of Grinnell; S/Sgt. Marvin Lemke of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; and Calvin of Winchester, Va.; Albert Lemke of Des Moines and William Lemke of Cedar Rapids, Neb.; and 41 grandchildren.

Mr. Lemke was preceded in death by his parents, seven grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Myron L. Harris, pastor of the Northside Friends church, officiating.

Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Lemke's grandsons: Roger Haines, Larry Lemke, Albert Lemke, Earl Lemke, Phillip Lemke and Richard Lemke.

Burial will be in Pleasant Township cemetery at Ewart.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
