MARY SHEELER

Mary Sheeler, 92, of Grinnell died Saturday, April 26, at Friendship Manor.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 30, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Organist was Sylvia Thorson-Smith and vocal music was by Ed Phillips. Pallbearers were John Freeborn, Floyd Haines and Bill, Earl, Lyle and Richard Lemke. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

The daughter of James Robert and Lydia Playle McMeekin, she was born Dec. 25, 1910, on the family farm near Ewart where she was raised and educated. After her education she moved to Montezuma and was employed as a cook at several restaurants. She was married on Aug. 18, 1956, in Marshalltown to Isaac Lee Sheeler and they made their home in Grinnell. She was employed for several years at the McCormick Deering Store on Fourth Avenue and following the death of her husband in 1966 at the Ben Franklin store on Main Street.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She is survived by three nieces, Louise Beem of Bena, Minn., and Dorothy Haines and Hazel Darnell, both of Grinnell, and seven nephews, Don Lemke, Searsboro, Leonard, Walter, Jim and Ralph Lemke, all of Grinnell, Marvin Lemke of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Calvin Lemke, Winchester, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister Edith Lemke, one brother Robert McMeekin and one nephew Earl Lemke.
