LEONARD SOUTER

Leonard J. Souter, 82, of Brooklyn died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. William Daylong, pastor of the church, and the Rev. David Green of Grinnell officiating. Organist was Anita Ormiston, and soloist was Joan Gerard.

Pallbearers were Mel Colter, Roger Souter, Roger Gerard, Simon Brooks, Verlan Van Wyk and Paul Percell. Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

He was the son of Robert H. and Olivia B. Latcham Souter and was born on a farm near Montezuma April 6, 1913. The family moved to a farm near Ewart where he received his education and farmed with his father.

On Feb. 15, 1938, he was married to Vida M. Lockard. After farming in the Montezuma and Brooklyn areas, they moved to Brooklyn in 1969. Mr. Souter became a resident of Friendship Manor in February 1992. He had been a farmer and carpenter and was employed by Northrup King Seed for 27 years.

Mr. Souter was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Colter of Monument, Colo.; two brothers, Donald of Grinnell and Robert of Montezuma; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, two brothers, Clifford and Carl; and one infant sister.
