A REAL PIONEER DIES

Passing of Mrs. John Beeler Removes One of Our Earliest and Most Respected Residents.

WAS BORN, AND LIVED, AND DIED IN WASHINGTON TWP.

She Knew the Hardships of Early Settlers and the Luxuries of Prosperity

To be born and to live a long, happy and prosperous life in the same township in Iowa, and almost within a stone's throw of the house of her birth, is a rare and unique experience. But this was the lot of Mrs. John S. Beeler, the notable pioneer who passed away at the Community Hospital at 8:20 o'clock Sunday evening. She had been seriously sick about ten days, though she had been gradually failing for several years.

Ellen C. Beeler was born in Washington township August 14, 1852, and so was 68 years old last August. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Beeler, emigrated to Washington township from Indiana in 1849 when the country was a mere wilderness, five years before Ellen Beeler was born. Here was raised a large active and industrious family, some of whom settled close by the old home, three of whom are still living here, Fred Beeler, Mrs. Wm. Garrett and Clem Beeler.

Mr. and Mrs. George Beeler died in 1886, and 1887 and are buried at Blue Point.

Ellen C. Beeler was united in marriage with John S. Beeler, Jan. 22, 1871, and it was a great pleasure of the whole family that only a few weeks ago they were able to enjoy together their golden wedding anniversary. It was a delightful and memorable occasion and will always be cherished by the bereaved husband as a loving memory.

Mrs. Beeler was well and favorably known by a large circle of loving friends and she will be remembered as a woman who served her generation and her community notably. She was active in many good works and all the early settlers who knew her in youth and loved her in maturity will remember her in kindness. She has left an impress on Washington township not soon to be forgotten.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed owing to the absence of several of the children, but the services will be at the home conducted by Rev. C. Wasser, assisted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn. Burial will be in Hazelwood.

Mrs. Beeler leaves her husband and nine children, twenty-five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of sincere friends to mourn her death.

The children are: Ira C. Beeler, of Washington township; Ora F. Beeler, of Hugo, Colo.; Geo. F. Beeler, of Washington township; Mrs. Nannie Bradley,of Edina, Mo.; Mrs. Mary E. Morrison, of Lincoln, Nebr.; John C. Beeler of Sioux City; L.C. Beeler, of Washington township; Mrs. Edith Jane Reid, of Malcom; Mrs. Clara A. Berhorst of Madison Wis. A daughter, Mrs. Mae Windhurst died about ten years ago.
