MRS. RANKIN RITES TUESDAY

Pauline Rankin, 72, of 1605 Sunset St., Grinnell, died of a heart attack Friday, Nov. 4, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Parish, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Greg and Tim Wisgerhof, Joe and Steve Scurr, Terry Ferguson, Jason and Nathan Rankin, and Joel, Ryan and Eric Smith. Flower bearers will be Kathy Scurr Ferguson, Sarah Pauline Rankin, Connie Paul Scurr and Robin Alexander Wisgerhof.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in Mrs. Rankin's name may be made to the Newburg United Church of Christ.

The daughter of Frank and Lela Beeler Wells, she was born June 26, 1916, near Montezuma. She attended Montezuma and Grinnell schools.

On June 15, 1935, she was married to Gerald Lee Rankin at Newton. The couple lived in Newton and later farmed near Grinnell, Gilman and Lineville.

While living here, Mrs. Rankin worked for the Grinnell College food service and at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co.

She was a member of the Newburg United Church of Christ and the Ladies' Fellowship of the church, the Newburg Progress Club, the Farm Bureau, the Rebekah Lodge, and the Victor and Jasper-Pomona Granges.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald of Grinnell; one son, Dennis of Lineville; four daughters, Janet Scurr of Gilman, Bev Rankin of Grinnell, Joyce Wisgerhof of Urbandale and Debbie Smith of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Clair Wells of Grinnell; and one sister Mary Jean Souter of Montezuma. She was preceded in death by her parents.
