RUSSELL TUBAUGH

Russell B. Tubaugh, 81, of Montezuma, formerly of Belle Plaine, died of a heart attack Wednesday, April 7, while working at his residence.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Belle Plaine, with the Rev. Rick Sparks officiating. Pallbearers were Jared, Seth and Kurt Tubaugh; Steve Koogler; Marvin Waterhouse and Devon Mullet. Honorary bearers were Vernon Blomme, Dean Herteen, Mike Koogler, Dale Noyes, Walter Proske, Rick Sparks and Joe Hayes.

Burial was in Blakesburg Cemetery with the Hrabak Funeral Home of Belle Plaine in charge of arrangements.

He was born May 29, 1917, near Blakesburg to Albert O. and Irma McCoy Tubaugh. He attended rural school in Monroe County.

He was married to Marie Lavina Walker June 6, 1935, in Blakesburg.

Mr. Tubaugh co-owned and operated the Belle Plaine Sale Barn with three brothers until the business was incorporated in 1964. He continued to serve as manager of the Belle Plaine Livestock Auction until retiring in 1986. His wife died in October 1996.

On Feb. 20, 1999, he was married to Margaret Arthur Stemsrud in Belle Plaine. They lived in rural Montezuma.

Mr. Tubaugh was past president of the National Livestock Auction Association and held the office of high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Belle Plaine.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jerry of Belle Plaine and Jack of Wheatland; one daughter, Joy Tubaugh of Okemos, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Billie Blevins of Arlington, Texas, Judith D'Amico of Portland, Maine, and Linda Vogt of Fayette, Mo.; one brother, Richard of Moravia; five grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, three brothers, Ralph, Ray and Roy; and one son, James.
