Montezuma Republican (Montezuma, Iowa) Feb. 22, 1945

Born 1859, in Log Cabin in Mahaska County.

Passed Away February 14th, at Her Home in Montezuma.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jake Wickham were said from the Ross Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Merton D. Wyatt in charge. Mrs. Wickham passed away at her home Wednesday, February 14, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Mrs. Frances Byers and Mrs. Helen Haworth sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sometime We'll Understand," accompanied by Alice Underwood.

Pallbearers were Walter McNeal, Charley McNeal, Jess Stilson, Luther Crawford, A. Groenenboom and Dwight Conner.

OBITUARY

Margaret Mitchell, daughter of Andrew and Mary Fleener Mitchell, was born December 9, 1859, in a log cabin in Mahaska County, and passed away Wednesday, February 14, 1945, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Her childhood and youth were spent in the neighborhood of her birth.

On October 6, 1880, she was united in marrige to Jacob A. Wickham and to this union the following children were born: Mrs. Walter Parker of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Walter Palmer of Newburg, Mrs. Ross Gerard of Hollandale, Minn. and Claude Roy Wickham, who passed away March 23, 1890.

In 1882 they moved to Charles Mix County, South Dakota, where they lived for eight years; then to Mills County, Iowa, where they lived for six years; then to Texas County, Missouri for 4 years; then to Mahaska County and later to a farm near New Sharon. About twenty years ago they moved to Montezuma.

In 1899 she was united with the Brethren Church in Mills County.

Mr. Wickham passed away November 23, 1944.

She leaves to mourn her passing three children, 10 grandchildren, three who are in the service, 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Cass of Grinnell; one brother, Andrew Mitchell of Searsboro; and a host of friends and relatives.
