MRS. CECIL ARTHUR RITES HELD FRIDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Cecil (Pansy) Arthur were conducted by the Rev. Howard Hayes Friday afternoon, February 7, at the Methodist Church. Memorial rites by the Order of Eastern Star were also held.

Miss Alice Underwood was the organist at the services. Flower attendants were Mrs. Stuart Fleming, Mrs. Ernie Mitchell, Mrs. Charles Renaud and Mrs. Lory Gause.

Serving as casket bearers were Max Sarver, Melvin Mills, Thomas Fleener, John Elscott, Mike Brooks and Charles Renaud. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery.

The daughter of Jane and Moses Gerard, she was born southwest of Montezuma on Sept. 7, 1901, and passed away in the Grinnell Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 67 years of age.

She attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School.

On Oct. 3, 1920, she was united in marriage with Cecil Arthur. To this union ten children were born. They made their home in the Searsboro community until 1964 when they retired and moved to Montezuma.

Mrs. Arthur was active in the Methodist Church and the W.S.C.S. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert, in 1968.

She is survived by her husband and their children, Margaret Stemsrud of Montezuma, Betty Lash of Massillon, O., Eva McDowell and Keith Arthur of Searsboro, Kenneth Arthur of Gilman, Ward Arthur of Omaha, Nebr., Doris Lowry of Grinnell, Shirley Tice of Corning, Aileen Hennen of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert Arthur of Searsboro; 40 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Cochran of Searsboro, Irene Johnson of Ottumwa, and Pearl Hagen of Montezuma; and one brother, Lewis Gerard of Chula Vista, Calif.
