MRS. ARMILDA GERARD PASSES AWAY IN GILMAN

Gilman, Ia., Nov. 22, Special: Armilda Jane Armstrong, daughter of Mary and Leander Armstrong, was born in Kansas, Aug. 8, 1864, and passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Cochran, at Gilman, after a lingering illness of thirteen weeks. She was united in marriage to Moses Gerard Dec. 5, 1884. He passed away in March of 1934. To this union were born nine children, LeRoy, the oldest, dying in infancy. Surviving children are Mrs. George Katzenberger of San Diego, Calif., Ross of Hollandale, Minn., Mrs. Clyde Cochran of Gilman, Lewis of Juneau, Alaska, Mrs. Leo Farley of Grinnell, Carl of North Platte, Neb., Mrs. Cecil Arthur of Grinnell, and Mrs. Robert Johnson of Ottumwa.

Mrs. Gerard spent most of her life in Poweshiek county except for seven years in Kansas. She united with the Methodist church in her girlhood and lived an exemplary life and died in the faith that had carried her through many years of life. She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother and expressed herself as ready and willing to go at her Master's call. Besides her children she leaves nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Miller of Arlington, Calif., and Mrs. Anna McCarllows of Roseville, Calif., and two brothers, George and John Armstrong of Colorado, besides many oher relatives and a host of friends.

During her illness at the home of her daughter in Ottumwa the four Collett brothers brought her much comfort by singing her favorite hymns. They also sang for her funeral.

The funeral service was held in the Montezuma Methodist church Sunday afternoon, November 21, 1937, conducted by the Rev. R.G. Smith assisted by Rev. (the rest is missing due to a crease in the microfilm) body was laid to rest in the Montezuma cemetery.
