ZEPHYR L. FREEBORN

Zephyr L. Freeborn, 91, of Montezuma, Ia., died at Grinnell General Hospital December 4, 1987.

She was born on November 11, 1896, in Putnam County, Missouri, the daughter of William and Milly (Allen) Hudson. On February 28, 1915, she was united in marriage with Everett Freeborn in Appanoose County, Ia. To this union 11 children were born. They moved to Poweshiek County, Ia., in 1919. In 1925 they moved to Montezuma. In 1933 they moved back to Appanoose County, returning to Montezuma in 1941.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett Sr., on June 25, 1978; two sons: Cletus Wm. and Raymond and six brothers: Ernest, Marion, Walter, Mert, Everett and Bryan.

Zephyr is survived by six daughters: Helen Harrington of Montezuma, Mary Louise Kopfer of Denver, Colo., Mauretta Sharer and Betty Malloy both of Montezuma, Gladys Kilmer of Morrison, Colo., and Joan Davis of Englewood, Colo.; three sons: Delmar of Wood Dale, Ill., Everett Jr. and Gene both of Montezuma; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1:30 p.m., at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with Rev. Thomas Pickles officiating from United Methodist Church, Montezuma. Mrs. Kathleen Ramsey was organist. Casket bearers were Larry Bryan, Danny Malloy, Craig Kilmer, Stanley Freeborn, Steven Freeborn, and William Freeborn. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.
