He spent most of his life in Poweshiek county, with the exception of seven years in Kansas.

In December, 1884, he was united in marriage to Jane Armstrong. To this union were born nine children: Leroy, who died in infancy; Mrs. May Katzenberger, San Diego, Cal.; Ross of Hollandale, Minn.; Mrs. Ethel Cochran, Searsboro, Iowa; Carl of Fulton, Mo.; Mrs. Pearl Farley, Grinnell, Iowa; Mrs. Pansy Arthur, Searsboro, Iowa; and Mrs. Irene Johnson, Ottumwa, Iowa.

He had been in poor health for several years, but on March 7 he was taken seriously ill, and although everything was done to relieve his suffering, he grew worse each day, and quietly passed away Friday afternoon at 2:30.

Five of the children were able to be in the home and help care for him in his last illness.

He leaves to mourn their loss his widow, eight children, seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

One brother, Lewis, of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters: Mrs. William Richardson, Cylinder, Iowa, and Mrs. Wes Davidson of Holly, Colorado, also survive, besides many relatives and friends.
