VERLE PALMER SERVICES HELD

Verle W. Palmer, 63, of Newton died following a heart attack Wednesday, July 10, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. David Presher of the Community Heights Alliance Church officiating. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial fund in Mr. Palmer's name has been established, and contributions may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Walter and Myrtle Wickham Palmer, he was born Dec. 10, 1921, at Newburg. He was a graduate of Newburg High School.

On June 4, 1950, he was married to Joyce E. McCain in Grinnell. The couple then moved to Newton. Mr. Palmer was a carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local Union 106, AFL-CIO,. Des Moines. He attended the Community Heights Alliance Church and was a member of the Newburg American Legion Post.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one son, Air Force S/Sgt. Mark E. Palmer of Toyko, Japan; one daughter, Susan J. Parker of Grinnell; a granddaughter; three brothers, Lloyd of Newton, Glen of Bartlesville, Okla., and Donald of Waterloo; and two sisters, Maxine Mehlin of Waterloo and Margaret Campbell of Garden Grove, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lucille and Esther.
