MRS. SEARS DIES IN NEWTON HOME

Mrs. Edith Louisa Sears, 87, the widow of Myron A. Sears, Rte. 3, died Sunday evening at a Newton nursing home where she had been residing for the past year and a half.

Mrs. Sears was born May 13, 1880, at Newburg, the daughter of Anson Hayden Palmer and Abi Frances Alden. She attended the local Newburg schools, and later attended the former Grinnell Academy.

On Dec. 9, 1903, she was united in marriage with Myron A. Sears at her family home in Newburg. Following their marriage Mr and Mrs. Sears lived on the farm in Chester Township where he was a well known Ayrshire cattle breeder for many years.

To this union were born one daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Margaret) Case of Grinnell, and four sons--Adelbert Sears, deceased; Howard Sears of Rte. 1, Malcom; George Sears of Rose Creek, Minn.; and Richard Sears of Rte. 3, Grinnell.

In addition to her daughter and sons, Mrs. Sears is survived by her grandchildren: Miss Lois Case and Mrs. Al (Eileen) Meyer, both of Grinnell; Mrs. Jesse (Jane) Allnutt of Blairstown, Iowa; Paul M. Sears of Long Beach, Calif.; Clarence A. Sears of Gilman; James H. Sears of Ames; Mrs. John (Helen) Primus of Roseville, California; Mrs. Don (Joyce) Boeset, of Mason City Iowa; Mervin Sears of Ostrander, Minn.; Mrs. William (Mildred) Blood of Kasson, Minn.; Jack Sears of Rochester, Minn.; Larry Sears of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; Mrs. Darwin (Marilyn) Schlenker of Bolivia, South America, and Mrs. Larry (Glenda) Bradshaw of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She also leaves 15 great grandchildren and two brothers, Charles Austin Palmer of Denver, Colo., and John Sylvester Palmer of Long Beach, Calif.

Mrs. Sears was a member of the Chester United Church of Christ (Congregational) and the Chester Women's Fellowship. She also was a member of the Farm Bureau and a former member of the Sonora Grange.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith L. Sears will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Chester United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Richard F. Hempenius, pastor, officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Palmer, vocalists, and Mrs. Fred Weaver, Jr., organist.

Casket bearers will be John Bennett, Merle Harris, Farrell Siehl, Clair Strand, Harold Tice, and Warren Ryan. Flower bearers will be Mrs. Mary McDowell, Mrs. Lenore Brubaker, Mrs. Clara Campbell, and Mrs. Mary Emmert.

Burial will be in Chester Township cemetery north of Grinnell. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral home until 9 a.m. Tuesday, and thereafter at the Chester Congregational church.
