RITES SATURDAY FOR W.A. PALMER, NEWBURG RESIDENT

Funeral services for Walter A. Palmer, a lifelong resident of the Newburg community, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. Roland M. Wendell, minister of the Newburg Congregational Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

Mr. Palmer, who died Tuesday evening at Marshalltown, is survived by four daughters, Mrs. E.J. (Lucille) Britton of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Vernon (Esther) Williamson of Buena Park, Calif., Mrs. Wells (Margaret) Campbell of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Charles F. (Maxine) Mehlin of Waterloo; four sons, Lloyd and Verle of Newton, Glenn of Bartlesville, Okla.; and Donald of Washington; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren ; three brothers, Austin of Colorado Springs; George of Newburg and John of Long Beach, Calif.; and a sister, Edith Sears of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Albert.

The son of Anson and Abie Alden Palmer, he was born April 10, 1884 in Newburg where he attended rural schools.

He was married to Pearl M. Wickham Nov. 14, 1906 at Newburg. She preceded him in death June 4, 1959.

Mr. Palmer was a carpenter and cabinet maker until his retirement a year ago.

He was a member of the Newburg Congregational Church.
