JACK PARMLEY SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Leland Jack Parmley, 44, of Rte. 3, Grinnell, who died Sunday morning (Oct. 14) were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel Ogata, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Organist was Mrs. Eugene Holley, and flower bearers were Mrs. Robert Henderson and Mrs. Leroy Johnson. Pallbearers were Bill Gilbreaith, Clarence Innis, William Innis, Melvin Storbeck, Carmen Wilson, and Keith Worthy. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Henderson, Clayton Phelps, Dale Pinkerton, Leon Pinkerton, Don Starnes, and Harvey Wilkins. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, with the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit officiating.

The son of Vursel P. and Cecil Messer Parmley, he was born Ot. 31, 1928, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. He attended rural schools near his home and was graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1946. On June 1, 1967, he was married to Judith Arlene Pinkerton in Unionville, Mo.

Following his graduation from high school, Mr. Parmley was associated with the Grinnell Foundry and later with the Midwest Stamping Co., Kellogg. During the Korean conflict, he served with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he worked for Amana Refrigeration Co. For the past six years he was water plant operator for the city of Grinnell. He was a member of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Judie; his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Barker of Gilman and Mrs. Richard (Linda Sue) Griffith of Brooklyn; one brother, Thomas P. Parmley of Grinnell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister, Aloha Marie Parmley.
