ETHEL DUNTON

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday, April 12) at the Smith Funeral Home for Mrs. Ethel Mae Dunton, 82, of 817 1/2 Commercial St., widow of Raymond Earl Dunton, who died Friday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

The Rev. J. Eugene Young of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiated at the services.

Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Pallbearers were Bob Belland, Daryl Goodlow, Glen Meldrem, Max Meldrem, Raymond Meldrem and Stanley Walford.

Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Don Sowerwine and James White.

Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Brooklyn.

The daughter of David and Nellie E. York Walford, Mrs. Dunton was born Jan. 31, 1889 in Brooklyn, Iowa. She attended the Brooklyn public schools.

In November, 1913, she was married to Raymond Earl Dunton at Brooklyn. To this union three children were born. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Brooklyn. Mr. Dunton died in 1918, and Mrs. Dunton continued to make her home in Brooklyn until 1951 when she came to Grinnell to be near her children.

Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Cliff (Elta)Thorp of Grinnell and Mrs. Lyle (Arlene) Goodwin of Malcom; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters -- Mrs. Maude Meldrem of Grinnell and Mrs. Eva Newton of Brooklyn and one brother, Bert Walford of Brooklyn.

Mrs. Dunton was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; one son, Wayne "Tony" Francis Dunton, who died in 1964; her parents; one sister, Verna Craft, and two brothers, Doug and C. Franklin Walford.
