Grinnell Herald-Register (Grinnell, Iowa) Nov. 3, 1949

SARAH MAY DITZLER

Sarah May Ditzler, youngest daughter of the late John and Margaret J. McKeag, was born on a farm in Pleasant township, Poweshiek county, on February 25, 1890. She attended the home country school and was graduated from Grinnell high school in 1908.

She was united in marriage with Arthur E. Ditzler of Grinnell on June 2, 1914. Mr. Ditzler has been in the employ of the M. & St. L. railroad for the past 39 years, except for military service in World War I for two years.

Mr. and Mrs. Ditzler made their home in Marshalltown for 10 years, but had lived in Oskaloosa for the past 21 years.

Mrs. Ditzler had been a victim of arthritis for many years, with its many pains and much suffering. She had been receiving treatment for a severe nervous condition for some time. She returned to the old family home in Grinnell during the past summer to seek treatment and relief, but without success. Her condition gradually became more severe, and depressing, which resulted in her sudden passing on October 28.

She was baptized, in her infancy, in the United Presbyterian church at Ewart, and was an attendant of that church and Sunday school until the family moved to Grinnell in 1903.

She was a member of Rebekah lodge and maintained her membership in the Grinnell lodge, while she lived in the other cities, and until her passing last week.

No children were born to the marriage.

She is survived by her husband, her brother, James McKeag, of Chicago; her sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth McKnight and Mrs. Jayne Skidmore of Grinnell; her nieces, Mrs. Louise Downey of Brooklyn, Mrs. Helen Puls of near Grinnell, and a host of friends wherever she had lived.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Grinnell, and burial was in the family plot in the Ewart cemetery.

Relatives from out of town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. James McKeag of Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rutherford, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rutherford and Miss Nancy Rutherford of Audubon; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Rutherford of Ottumwa, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ingersoll and Mrs. Lew Wallace of Des Moines.
