JOHN H. HARDEN OF MONTEZUMA DIES

John H. Harden, pioneer and life time resident of this vicinity, the youngest child of Washington and Elizabeth Light Harden, was born at Montezuma, on October 1, 1854, and died at his home on Montezuma, on Monday afternoon at four o'clock, January 21, 1929, aged 74 years, 2 months and 20 days.

He grew to manhood in Montezuma, and on June 29, 18?2, was married to Evelyn Allen, who survives him. To this union were born two daughters, Millie, now Mrs. Cloyd Inman, and Audrey, now Mrs. Virgil Johnston of Deep River. There are also three grandsons and two granddaughters. All these, with many other relatives survive him.

After his marriage he moved to a farm north of town where he lived until eleven years ago when he moved into Montezuma where he has since lived.

Mr. Harden was among the best known of Montezuma's citizens. His family were among the earliest settlers here, and he was among the first white children born here. He was a good citizen, a kind husband, an indulgent father, and a good neighbor. He was particularly fond of children, and up until the last days of his illness took particular pleasure in the many school children who passed daily.

He is the last of his immediate family, his brother Tom, passing away three years ago.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church conducted by the Rev. A.H. Barker. Interment was made in the Montezuma cemetery.--Montezuma Republican.
