RALPH HAINES DIES FOLLOWING ILLLNESS

Mr. Ralph Ival Charles Haines, 51, of 618 Spring St. in Grinnell, died Tuesday morning at a local hospital. He had been in failing health.

The son of Andrew and Pearl Otto Haines, Mr. Haines was born Sept. 1, 1915, at Brooklyn, Iowa, the second of ten children.

Following his education in the local schools of Brooklyn, Mr. Haines moved to Grinnell. He was married to the former Dorothy Lemke. Five children were born to the couple.

Mr. Haines had been employed with the Gulf Chemical Co., at Cornland Plantfoods in Grinnell and had received a 15-year service pin from the company.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Peggy Haines of Grinnell and Linda Haines of Newton; three sons, Roger Haines of Gilman and Roy and Floyd Haines of Marshalltown; his mother, Mrs. Pearl Haines of Grinnell; two grandchildren, Gina Haines of Marshalltown and Dorothy Haines of Gilman; four sisters--Mrs. Jack (Zella) Delk and Mrs. Eugene (Fern) Freeborn of Grinnell, Mrs. Leo (Betty) Kelm of Malcom and Mrs. Robert (Catherine) Akers of Central City; four brothers--John Haines of Sigourney, Wallace Haines of Montezuma and William Haines and Ray Haines of Grinnell, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Haines was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Haines, and one sister Hazel.

Funeral services for Mr. Haines were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Leslie Warner, pastor of the First Friends church, officiating.

Mrs. Willard Heffner was organist and Francis Graves was soloist.

Pallbearers were John Ditzler, Bill Belcher, Earl Lemke, Bert Phipps, George White and Burdette Abel.

Flower bearers were Mrs. Leonard Lemke and Mrs. Marion Mott.

Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
