MRS. SKIDMORE RITES FRIDAY

Mrs. Jayne Skidmore, 85, of 524 High St., Grinnell, died early Wednesday morning at Grinnell General Hospital. She had been in failing health the past two years.

The daughter of John and Margaret Rutherford McKeag, she was born April 21, 1887, on the family farm in Pleasant Township. She attended the rural Pleasant Township school and later the Grinnell schools.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Grinnell and was active in many church activities. For many years she was employed as a retail sales clerk for the former Britnall's Department Store, McNally's Grocery, and Cunningham Drug. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters of which she was a past chief, and she was a past noble grand of the Rebekahs; she had been honored with a 50-year jewel from the Grinnell Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Dean (Louise) Downey of Des Moines and Mrs. Shirley (Helen) Puls of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Gary Downey and Mrs. James (Gwendolyn) Bennett of Des Moines and Dennis Puls and Mrs. Marguerite Beeler of Grinnell; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McKnight of Grinnell; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lydia McKeag of Warsaw, Ind. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Mary McKeag, Mrs. Sarah Ditzler, and James McKeag.

Funeral services for Mrs. Skidmore will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel Ogata of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Eugene Holley. Pallbearers will be Don Donohoe, Carroll Gerard, Kenneth Halstead, Michael Hotchkin, John Peak and Paul Stoppels. Honorary bearers will be Harry Bitcon, Earl E. Child, Don Cunningham, John I. Hotchkin, Paul McConnell, and Edward McNally.

Burial will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Grinnell First United Presbyterian Church.
