FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY FOR JAMES MCKEAG, 81

James McKeag, 81, died Thursday evening at a local hospital following an illness of the past few years.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles E. Landis, minister of the United Presbyterian church, officiating. Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Eugene Holley.

Serving as pallbearers were Carl Child, William Bitcon, Dean Downey, Charles Manly, John Peak, and Shirley Puls. Interment was in Pleasant Township cemetery at Ewart.

Born at Ewart on Dec. 12th, 1879, he was the son of John McKeag and Margaret Rutherford McKeag. He attended the rural schools in Poweshiek county and graduated from Grinnell high school and later from Grinnell College with the class of 1902.

While in school Mr. McKeag was active in football and basketball. He taught mathematics in the Quincy, Ill. schools before entering the University of Chicago law school, graduating in 1907. He was affiliated with Phi Alpha Delta professional law fraternity.

Mr. McKeag was united in marriage with Lydia Deufel of Chicago in December, 1910. He practiced law in Chicago for approximately 50 years and was associated with the legal division of the Federal Trade Commission.

For a time they made their home in Washington, D.C. Mr. McKeag had lived in Grinnell for the past 4 1/2 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia at the family home at 933 Summer St.; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth McKnight and Mrs. Jayne Skidmore, both of Grinnell. Also surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Louise Downey of Irwin and Mrs. Helen Puls of Grinnell.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters.
